Auto Fraud: Damage to a non-covered car

Vandalism, including a keyed door and dented hood, was reported by the insured’s lien holder. However, the claim actually occurred just three days after the vehicle was removed from the auto policy. Also, the damaged vehicle was an older model, yet had full coverage (with no inception photos). Murkier still was the fact that no damage had been reported to the loss location’s security guards.

When it was determined that an earlier claim had already been under SIU involvement, a full investigation was launched. Both the lien holder and the claimant became uncooperative when it became clear that the lien holder knowingly submitted a claim for pre-existing damage. Claim denied. Savings: $1,169.
