An ACM adjuster was assigned a GL claim for a claimant who said her car and personal property were stolen when she dropped her BMW off at our insured dealership. Her investigation verified that someone stole the vehicle, which was recovered the next day. Another customer was arrested for the theft. The claimant was paid for damage to the vehicle, but the adjuster questioned the claimant’s request for an additional $10,000.00 in personal property. The claimant made no mention of her laptop, designer bags or her $600 Louis Vuitton dog collar when reporting the loss to police. She just realized that her dog collar was missing.
Our investigator interviewed witness at the BMW dealership who asked the claimant to remove her personal property when she dropped off the car, and watched her remove a bag and laptop. IS obtained surveillance video showing the claimant taking the items out of the car.
The claimant refused to cooperate with the investigation. She hung up the phone when we called to schedule an interview. She verified speaking with the investigator, but said the conversation stressed her out. When asked again to cooperate, she refused. No cooperation equals no payment and a closed claim.
