An ACM claim adjuster handled a bodily injury claim at the California/Mexico border, on a National Unity policy. The insured admitted fault, stating that she accidently struck a pedestrian that was standing behind her car. The claimant said she was walking in the parking lot. She was looking at her cell phone when the insured vehicle ran over her feet. The insured and claimant denied knowing each other prior to the loss. There was no police or medical response. The insured said the claimant walked back to Mexico after the accident. She fell due to ankle pain and broke her nose. The claimant said she felt pain in her feet that night. A doctor said she needed surgery. The adjuster sent the case to IS, to get in-person interviews, suspecting a staged auto accident.
Research on social media showed the two women to not only be friends – but mother and daughter. Further research showed them each making claims for injuries in an auto accident just days prior to our loss. The two women stopped returning calls. Case closed.
