Purchasing a policy AFTER the accident doesn’t count

October 10, 2021

auto claim denial

The insured called to report that she was in a car accident.

The claims adjuster couldn’t reach the insured by phone. Noting that the date of loss was the same as the date of policy inception, the adjuster referred the case to IS.

When the investigator interviewed the insured, she said she thought she hit a bump in the road. She pulled over several miles down the road to inspect her flat tire, and the police arrived to report that she was in an accident. She said she didn’t know she hit another car but, confirmed significant damage to her vehicle. She admitted that she purchased the insurance policy an hour after the accident. Case closed.
