Within a two year period of insuring her vehicle, an insured had been involved in 17 different incidences. However, on April 8, 2014, at approximately 11:30 PM, the insured alleged she went to an intersection in Los Angeles driving her 2000 Buick Regal to pick up her boyfriend. Upon arriving at the intersection, her boyfriend got into her vehicle on the passenger side and a male pointed a gun at her and demanded she exit the vehicle. Allegedly fearing for her life, she exited the vehicle and with her boyfriend seated in the front passenger seat the suspect drove away.
A short time later, the insured alleged she received a telephone call from her boyfriend stating the suspect crashed the vehicle. The insured alleged she telephoned 911 and reported the car jacking and her vehicle was now in an impound lot. As the result of her vehicle allegedly being car jacked and her receiving unknown injuries, the insured reported the loss to American Claims Management (ACM) on April 9, 2014.
The ACM representative referred this claim to Investigation Solutions SIU to investigate and confirm the facts of loss and the possible car jacking of the insured’s vehicle.
ISI learned the insured did not telephone 911 or go to any Los Angeles Police Department to report the alleged car jacking. On April 8, 2014, the insured’s boyfriend, was involved in a single vehicle traffic collision. As the result of knowing that his license was suspended the insured’s boyfriend was cited for driving with a suspended license with the vehicle being impounded for 30 days. The insured refused to give a statement in this matter and refused to give a statement under oath to defense counsel.
On September 17, 2014, the California Department Of Insurance, Fraud Bureau opened an investigation into this matter. The potential savings in this is $9,000.
